Information on Social Work Field Placements to Nepal
If you are a Bachelor or Masters of Social Work Student studying at an accredited course at a university in Australia, there are a number of reputable host NGO’s in Pokhara, Nepal that will provide you with the opportunity to complete your final 3-month or 500-hundred-hour social work field education experience with them.
Through our Social Work International Nepal program, we will match you to a host NGO aligned to your interests, skills, and learning areas that you seek to develop during your placement.
Some of our recommended host NGOs also deliver IAW’s programs. This means, as a Social Work Student, you will be able to experience the work of IAW in Nepal and how, with our partners, we enhance the health and human rights of women and girls through our Gender Equity Social Action programs.
What else you expect as a student?
You will also learn with other grassroots host NGOs that are empowering the people of Nepal. You will gain both knowledge and first hand experience of what it is like to create real and lasting change, all the while contributing to your host NGO in meaningful and practical ways.
During your placement, you are provided with university and Australian Association of Social Work approved social work supervision.
Our Preparation Program
We have also designed a Placement Preparation Program for you which has a few different components including the Lived Experience Program. This is a series of videos created by students who have already been to Nepal for their social work placement.
Here is an example of one of our videos from our Lived Experience Program.
Another component is the Cultural Immersion Program which is delivered through our Social Work International Nepal program and our partner in Nepal Karma Flights. This program ensures you become fully immersed in an authentic Nepali experience that highlights the culture, tradition, language and history of this beautiful country.
Another component is a Mid Placement Retreat run by our partner Brave Heart Himalayas. This is an opportunity to deeply reflect on the first half of your placement as well as trek up to Poon Hill summit (3210 m) where you will be rewarded by the 360-degree stunning view of the world’s highest peaks. We will also continue to explore deeper insights into the the life of Nepali people
